Amazon Prime Video has released the first official image of Kratos and Atreus in its upcoming live-action adaptation of the God of War franchise. The series, helmed by Ronald D. Moore, is already in production with actors Ryan Hurst and Callum Vinson portraying the iconic father-son duo.
The visual depicts a scene from the opening of the 2018 game, where Kratos tests Atreus after burning the ashes of his wife and Atreus' mother. This moment is both emotionally significant for fans and a strong callback to the original game's narrative.
While the image itself lacks the dynamic energy of the game's cinematic presentation, it serves as a promising teaser for what’s to come. The costume and makeup teams have clearly prioritized authenticity, ensuring that Kratos' signature appearance is faithfully represented. However, like many still images, it falls short in conveying the full mythological weight of the source material.
The series has already assembled a notable cast, including Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Danny Woodburn as Brok, and Jeff Gulka as Sindri. Recently, Ed Skrein joined the project to play Baldur, with Freya remaining the only major role yet to be announced. Production is set to continue through March 2026, with no official release date confirmed.
Fans can expect more updates as the series progresses, including potential reveals for the remaining cast members and further details on how this adaptation will blend live-action with the mythological grandeur of the original games.
