During today's State of Play, independent UK developer Jagex announced that RuneScape: Dragonwilds will be released on Sony's PlayStation 5 console later this year and will also join the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscription service tiers at launch. It'll be the first console installment in the fantasy franchise, largely known for the PC MMORPG RuneScape, which originally launched in 2001. Earlier this year, Jagex boasted of committing the largest investment yet into the IP. Unlike the original RuneScape, this is an open world survival crafting game where players explore the never-before-seen continent of Ashenfall while embarking on quests, grinding skills, and slaying enemies like dragons. A few weeks ago, the developers shared the 2026 roadmap: Late June — Umbral Sands The update adds Ashenfall's largest region to date, along with Icthlarin, Kalphites, Magic Carpet travel, new gear, and the Nightmare Crucible challenge. July — Agility The Agility skill arrives in July, bringing improvements to jumping, movement, and traversal. August — No Minor Update Jagex is skipping the August minor update to focus on refining the September release and platform support. September — Scorned Wilderness (Kuldra's Saga Climax) Scorned Wilderness brings the conclusion of Kuldra's Saga with the final showdown against Kuldra the God Eater, alongside Runite tier armor and skill tracks filled out to level 99. Jagex is also working on bringing the game to more platforms alongside this release, though no specific platforms have been named yet. Winter — Prayer and "Luminance" Prayer, an upcoming Combat and Support Skill that allows players to unlock powerful passive effects, boosting combat capabilities and restoring health, has been moved to the winter update, alongside content currently referred to as Luminance.
