Helldivers 2 has long been defined by its explosive, large-scale assaults—orbital strikes, gunship runs, and heavy artillery barrages that turn every mission into a thunderous spectacle. The Redacted Regiment warbond, set to launch in January, introduces a quieter alternative: a suite of suppressed weapons and stealth tools designed for players who prefer tactical subtlety over brute force.
This isn’t the first time Helldivers 2 has experimented with stealth mechanics—previous updates like the ODST crossover warbond added silenced firearms—but the Redacted Regiment expands on that foundation, providing both primary and secondary weapons optimized for undetected engagements. The shift suggests a deliberate effort to cater to players who may have found the game’s standard loadouts overwhelming or impractical in certain scenarios.
The warbond’s centerpiece is the R-72 Censor, a semi-automatic precision rifle with an integrated suppressor, allowing Helldivers to eliminate targets at long range without alerting nearby enemies. For closer-quarters engagements, the AR-59 Suppressor—a full-auto assault rifle—offers sustained firepower while maintaining a low profile. These weapons are accompanied by the P-35 Re-Educator, a silenced pistol that fires darts coated in a chemical agent capable of inducing delirium in both organic and robotic foes.
Environmental tactics play a key role as well. The TM-01 Lure Mine acts as a decoy, emitting sounds and lights to lure enemies before detonating explosively. Meanwhile, the B/MD C4 Pack stratagem provides six throwable charges that adhere to surfaces or enemies, offering precise explosive control for when suppressed fire isn’t enough.
Stealth is further enhanced by two new armor sets—light and medium—that include a Reduced Signature passive, which lowers noise output and reduces detection range. A Concealed Insertion booster adds smokescreens to Hellpod impacts, providing an additional layer of cover. The inclusion of capes, while seemingly cosmetic, reinforces the warbond’s thematic shift toward shadow operations.
This update could reshape how players approach missions in Helldivers 2. While the game’s signature loud, chaotic combat remains a core experience, the Redacted Regiment introduces a more methodical, high-risk, high-reward playstyle. Whether this will appeal to veterans or attract new players looking for something different from the usual Helldivers onslaught remains to be seen.
The warbond is scheduled to launch on January 20.
