Apple’s latest Studio Displays mark a significant leap forward in professional display technology, blending mini-LED precision with the flexibility of Thunderbolt 5 connectivity.
The new Studio Display introduces a 27-inch 5K Retina panel with over 14 million pixels and P3 wide color support, delivering rich, true-to-life imagery. It features a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View functionality, a studio-quality three-microphone array, and a six-speaker sound system with force-cancelling woofers for deeper bass. Thunderbolt 5 connectivity allows users to daisy-chain up to four displays, creating a combined resolution of nearly 60 million pixels. The display also includes two USB-C ports—one for peripherals and charging, the other for high-speed accessories—with support for up to 96W of power delivery through an included Thunderbolt 5 Pro cable.
For users demanding even higher performance, the Studio Display XDR takes things further. It features a mini-LED backlight with 2,304 local dimming zones, delivering up to 1,000 nits of SDR brightness and an unprecedented 2,000 nits of peak HDR brightness. The contrast ratio reaches 1,000,000:1, ensuring deep blacks and stunning clarity. This model also supports Adobe RGB color gamut alongside P3 wide color, covering over 80% of Rec. 2020 for HDR video editing. A variable refresh rate (VRR) ranges from 47Hz to 120Hz, optimizing fluidity for gaming and creative workflows.
The Studio Display XDR also includes specialized features for medical professionals, such as DICOM imaging presets and a Medical Imaging Calibrator, making it suitable for diagnostic radiology. Both models offer optional nano-texture glass to reduce glare in challenging lighting conditions, along with tilt-adjustable or height-adjustable stands, or a VESA mount adapter for custom setups.
Pricing starts at $1,599 for the Studio Display and $3,299 for the Studio Display XDR, with educational discounts available. Pre-orders open on March 4, with in-store availability expected from March 11.
These displays are designed to elevate professional workflows, whether in creative studios, medical facilities, or enterprise environments. The combination of advanced brightness, color accuracy, and Thunderbolt 5 connectivity positions them as premium tools for those who demand both performance and precision.
